In Grand Rapids my mother and I traveled to see Dr. Ryan. A expert in diagnosing dyslexia and other learning disabilities. The reason i was going, was to get a updated diagnoses of my dyslexia. The reason for this was to have a recent diagnoses to prove that for the ACT or SAT I need to receive extra time and accomidations, which help have better success on those tests for Dyslexics and people with learning disabilities.
The testing
After Dr. Ryan took me into the testing room, he immediately began testing me.
Taking 6 blocks with the colors white and red only on them. That came either with white going one direction and red going the opposite on the same side or solid. The object was to create the picture with the blocks.
Saying numbers back to him. sometimes there would be up to 7 numbers to repeat.
Listening to what a tape was saying and point the answer on a piece of paper that was given to you. As the tape goes on music starts to play and it gets harder to listen to the answer.
Comparing test.
Two words are given, the object is to find how they relate to one another. The words could vary. A example of this is Tree: Fly (the animal)
The normal type of test was also done. spelling, vocabulary, reading ability and comprehention.
After the many tests. Dr. Ryan was very nice. He told me the results will be ready for you next week. And that was the end to our meeting.
